E. Eileen Lahlum

August 19, 1930 — January 8, 2007

Esther Eileen Lahlum was born August 19, 1930, in Minot, ND, to Reinholt
Polsfut and Odelya Polsfut (Hager). She grew up on a farm near Benedict
ND, in McLean County. Eileen attended country school but later
the family moved to Minot where Eileen graduated from High School in
1949.

Eileen furthered her education and graduated from Briercrest Bible
College in Caronport, Saskatchewan in 1953. She attended Minot Business
College in 1954 and used this skill to acquire jobs at the Gospel
Missionary Union in Kansas City from 1955-1956 and then returned to
Minot to work at the Mandan Creamery until 1960.

Eileen married Simen L. Lahlum Jr. on September 20, 1959, and began
raising a family. They lived in Minot, ND, Bottineau, ND, St. Paul, MN, Atlanta, GA, Grand Forks, ND, and Thief River Falls, MN, before residing in their long time home
of Cottage Grove, MN, from 1976-2001. Eileen assisted her husband
in the family owned business of Jet Age Travel for 15 of the 17 years,
until they both retired in 1993 and sold the agency.

In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her spouse, visiting her
children around the world and she lived in Texas for a season before
returning to Minnesota to make her home in the Fargo-Moorhead area in
July of 2002. Her husband, Simen, died August 1, 2004.

Eileen was always active in music. Despite some handicaps in one hand she
specialized in accordion and piano. She used her talent for the Lord in
many the churches she attended. She also held many different jobs in the
churches, at times as president of the women's clubs or simply opening her
home for groups and friends. Additionally she supported her husband not
only in the office, but she created a vibrant home life that included
hand crafts, gardening, camping and of course music. Eileen was an
encouragement and prayer partner for her spouse, children and her friends

Eileen died Monday, January 8, 2007, in her home, at the age of
seventy-six under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane and her husband, Robert Wido, and
their children, Rachel and Robert III, Spangdahlem Ger
