Edna Lillian Sandland was born to Ole and Liv (Torgerson) Sandland on December 27, 1910, in Spring Prairie Township, north of Glyndon, MN. Edna grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room school until the ninth grade. At that time, Edna quit school to care for her younger siblings.
Edna was united in marriage to Herbert Rehder on November 26, 1929, at Glyndon, and they were married until his death on January 17, 1985. Herb and Edna lived in the Glyndon area until 1939, when they moved to Moorhead, MN, where they spent the remainder of their lives.
Edna worked at Fairmont Creamery, F.L. Behling Company, and ManorCare Nursing Home while living in Moorhead, but her greatest delight was one of caregiver. Her motto was "If you are family, you'll always have a roof over your head and three meals." She loved children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would always light up when they were around her. Edna passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND, at ninety-seven years of age.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Liv Sandland; brothers, Norman, Gordon, Clarence and Otto Sandland; sisters, Norma Muir and Doris Peterson; daughter, Darlene (Rehder) Olson; and her grandchildren, Daniel Kjelvik, Donald Kjelvik, and Steven Olson.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Marlys (Bud) Schwarz, and RoJean (Harold) Kjelvik, both of Fargo; her son, Terry (Becky) Rehder of Audubon, MN; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Edna's family would like to thank Bethany Homes Cares One and Hospice of the Red River Valley for all their support to the family and the care and dignity they provided Edna in her final days.

Visitation for Edna will be Wednesday, February 27, 2008, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 10:30 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
