Edwin M. Olson, 91, of Dilworth, MN, died Thursday, August 18, 2016, in his home.
Edwin Melbourne Olson, 91, of Dilworth, Minnesota, beloved husband of Doris (Kressin) Olson for 67 years, passed into eternal glory peacefully at home, surrounded by the ones he loved and lived for, on August 18th, 2016.
He was born in Colfax, North Dakota August 31, 1924 to Arthur and Lillian Olson. He attended school in Richland County, graduating from high school in Abercrombie, North Dakota in 1942. He was so proud of being captain of the basketball team that went to the state tournament.
Edwin served in the army during WWII from April 1945 to November 1949 and was honorably discharged. He was part of the Occupation of Japan, followed by the reserve for 3 years.
He was dedicated to serving the Lord. He was a charter member and held leadership positions at various churches such as Board of Elders and the Stewardship Committee. He was instrumental in the planning and building phases of several churches.
Edwin retired from the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad after 34 years. He spent his retirement years in Greeley and Boulder, Colorado and Mesa, Arizona. He returned to Dilworth, Minnesota in 2000.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and music/dancing (especially with family). As a loyal Twins fan, he rarely missed a game. Throughout his life, he loved to play cards with family and friends. It was his favorite past time.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Cheryl (John) Watt, Eileen Phillips, Beverly (Steve) Cahill, Marian (Mark) Peterson, Larry (Allison) Olson; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Hingst and Alice Kerper.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harlan Olson; sisters, Pearl Klubberud and Lois Junker; and son-in-law, Daniel Phillips.
A visitation for Edwin will be one hour prior to his funeral service.
