Elaine E. Elhard-Mitzel

Elaine E. Elhard Mitzel, 87, Fargo, ND, met her Lord Jesus on December 22, 2023 in Edgewood Vista, Fargo. 

Elaine was born November 27, 1936, in McClusky, ND, to Gotthilf and Caroline (Waltz) Herr.  She was the youngest of nine children who have all preceded her in death with the exception of her dear sister, Alice Kleingartner of Bismarck, ND.

Elaine married Ruben Elhard and welcomed three daughters.  Elaine was an accomplished vocalist and musician, playing multiple instruments.  She pursued her avocation for many years with a natural talent loved by everyone.  Elaine also had a successful career co-managing Elhard Builders along with her husband Ruben.  Ruben founded Elhard Builders in the 1970’s.  Following the death of her beloved husband in 1991, Elaine retired.   Elaine once again found happiness and married Alfred Mitzel on February 26, 1997.  She enjoyed a happy life playing bridge, traveling, and visiting her family.

Elaine will be remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Dr. Bonnie L. Floyd of Dallas, TX and Vonnie “Lane” (Dennis) Nolte of Moorhead, MN.  She leaves behind her most cherished grandchildren, Clayton Floyd of Dallas, TX, Carrie (Keith) Zimmerman of Taylor, ND, Katie (Zared) Lefor of Dickinson, ND, Richard Elkin of Phoenix, AZ, Elijah Nolte of Mandan, ND, Isaiah (Taty) Nolte of Nicaragua, and Charity (Ben) Bennitt of Nixa, MO; 12 great-grandchildren, William Nolte, Noah Nolte, Jacob Nolte, Joseph Nolte, Rose Lane Nolte, Wesley Bennitt, Lewis Bennitt, Nick Zimmerman, Ava Zimmerman, Emma Lefor, Emerson Lefor, and Easton Lefor; one sister, Alice Kleingartner; and son-in-law, Jay Elkin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved daughter, Connie Lynn Elkin; first husband, Ruben Elhard, 2^nd husband, Alfred Mitzel; and seven siblings, Olga Kemmit, Lena Hanson, Reuben Herr, Martha Hirsch, Robert Herr, Pearl Sundet, and Alvin Herr.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 10AM in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service of Moorhead, MN.  Interment will be held at Sunset memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
