Elaine C. Hanson, 88, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Harwood, ND, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2014, with family by her side in Villa Maria, Fargo.
Elaine Cecelia Gastonguay was born February 28, 1926, the daughter of Emil and Alice (LeBlanc) Gastonguay, in Walhalla, ND. She was raised in Walhalla and graduated from Walhalla High School in 1944. She then moved to Fargo where she attended Dakota Business College.
On September 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Allen Winston Hanson at the Newman Center in Fargo. They established their home in Minot where their four children were born. In 1967, Allen and Elaine moved to Harwood and she went to work in the NDSU Cereal Science and Food Technology Department as an administrative assistant from 1967 until retiring in 1993. In 1985, she was named "Outstanding Employee of the Year" by the North Dakota Public Employees Association, where she also served as treasurer and program vice president. She also was a member of the NDSU Staff Senate Steering Committee.
Elaine was an active member of St. William's Catholic Church in Argusville until she moved to Fargo in 2006. Her hobbies included Bridge Club, swimming, sewing, crocheting and knitting.
Elaine is survived by her children, Monica Spier, South St. Paul, MN, Sheryl Jackson, Fargo, Roxanne (Mitch) Mastre, Glyndon, MN, and Marc (Valerie) Hanson, Barnesville, MN; grandchildren, Joseph (Gretchen) Spier, Juliette (James) Francis, and Jessica Spier, all of South St. Paul; Vanessa Taite and Shara Jackson, Moorhead, MN, Dana (Amy) Hanson, Portland, OR; Krysta (Eddie) Jackson-Rivera, Salem, OR; Lauren and Emma Hanson, Barnesville; and Kassandra Mastre, Glyndon; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Thomas Spier, Josephina and James Francis, Marie-Jay Taite and Wesley Taite-Payette, Raashan Jackson, and Omarihan, Oneisha, and Oliviah Manning; sisters, Donna (Connie) Silard, Crownsville, MD, and Leone Simonds, Hopkins, MN; and brother, Norbert (Cindy) Gastonguay, Gadsden, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen; sister, Darlene Stennes; and son-in-law, Joseph Spier.
A gathering of friends for Elaine will be one hour prior to the memorial service.
Her memorial service will be Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
She will be buried in Holy Cross South Cemetery.
