Maxine Fish, 96, Moorhead, MN, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.
Elaine Maxine Nickerson was born on August 26, 1917, to Clarence and Edva (Erickson) Nickerson, in Superior, NE. The family moved several times in Maxine's youth, finally moving to Ulen, MN. Maxine was married to Norman Syverson, in 1935, in Ulen, and raised their family there until 1945, when the family moved to Moorhead.
Maxine taught ceramics out of her house for over twenty years and always sent her grandchildren home with crafts when they came to visit. She worked for several different toy companies over the years and won trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Greece and Spain. Maxine loved travel, shopping, and pull tabs. She lived in her own home until 2012 and spent her last year-and-a-half in Eventide.
Maxine is survived by her son, Gerry (Joan) Syverson of Moorhead; four grandchildren, Rick Matson, Tami (Ed) Manska, Kari (Jon Morgan) Syverson, and Kris Syverson; great-granddaughter, Fiona Morgan; brother, Dennis (Janet) Nickerson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Marcie and Don Matson; grandchildren, Tanya and Scott Matson; brother, Clinton Nickerson; stepsons, Sidney and Ronald Fish; and two ex-husbands.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service. Memorial Service: Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 3:00 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Burial: Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen, MN, in the spring of 2014.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Eventide for their loving care of Maxine at the end of her life.
