Elaine Oland

Elaine Marie Oland, 82, of Dilworth, MN, passed away at Serenity Assisted Living on April 30, 2016.

Elaine Marie Barke was born August 16, 1933, in Chisholm, MN, the only daughter of Albert and Lina (Wirtanen) Barke. She attended schools at Shenango Location, Roosevelt School and Chisholm High School.

On September 13, 1952, Elaine was united in marriage to Sigmund Arnold Oland in Hibbing, MN, and lived there until 1963, when they moved to Dilworth. Elaine worked at Dilworth High School, 1964-69; Lutheran Social Service of MN, 1977-1996; and PATH of ND, 1997-2007, in administrative and office leadership positions. Her contribution was her outstanding organizational and writing skills and attention to detail.

Elaine loved to sew and created many clothing and craft items and beautiful quilts for family and friends throughout the years. Her creative and artistic talents were exemplary and inspired her children and grandchildren in their own endeavors.

For years, Elaine and Sig loved curling and participating in bonspiels and enjoyed both friends and competition at the F-M Curling Club in Fargo. They were very family-focused and hosted friends and family in their screen porch in Dilworth or at their cabin at Deer Lake in Nevis, MN. Sunsets found them together in their rustic love seat on the beach at Deer Lake.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, and her parents.

Survivors include her brother, Russell Barke, Chisholm; and four children, Sharon (Roger) DiBrito, Missoula, MT, Diane (Jon) Hauglid, Dilworth, MN, Eivind (Charisse) Oland Holcombe, WI, and Nathan (Kathy) Oland, Owatonna, MN. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 2 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.
