Eldon "Henry" "Hank" Solum

Eldon Solum, age 90, of Baker, MN, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and his family at his side. 

Family Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, November 18, 2024, at Korsmo Funeral Service in Moorhead, MN with Rev. Ali Haugerud officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. 

Eldon Solum was born on August 29, 1934, to Jorgen and Ella Josephine (Fredrickson) Solum in Barnesville, MN. Some called him Eldon, some called him Henry, and some knew him as Hank. He grew up and attended school in Barnesville, MN, and during high school he was an athlete who played football, basketball, and track. He graduated in 1952. 

On October 30, 1953, Henry was united in marriage to Patricia McEvers in the Baker Presbyterian Church. They started out their married life living with Patricia’s parents on the farm in rural Baker. They then moved into Barnesville and Henry started working as a shipping clerk at American Crystal Sugar. After Patricia’s dad passed away, Henry was commissioned to take over the family farm. He farmed for many years. Henry and Patricia lived a quiet, humble life on the family farm, raising their family with continuous love and understanding. 

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Patricia Solum, of Baker, MN; four children: Kevin (Gayle) Solum of Barnesville, MN, Colin (Cheryl) Solum of Fargo, ND, Lori (Mike) Thompson of Barnesville, MN, and Kirk Solum, of Baker, MN; seven grandsons: Jim (Rachel Blankenship) Solum,K.C. (Amanda) Solum, Corey Solum, Jay (Carmen) Thompson, Clay (Chloe) Solum, Drew Thompson, Catlin Solum; and their great grandchildren; and one sister Lela Solum of Fargo,

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Helpers of Barnesville or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
