Eli DeJong

Eli DeJong was born February 4, 1914, in St. Jacobi-Parochie, The Netherlands, to Dick and Jelje DeJong. He came to the United States with his parents, in 1921, and they settled in the Prinsburg, MN, area where he grew up and attended school.
Eli was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Ledeboer on September 10, 1937, in Prinsburg, and they made their home in Moorhead, MN. Eli worked at the Union Stockyards, West Fargo, ND, as a livestock buyer and seller. He worked for Farmers Union for thirty-eight years, until he retired in 1979.
They continued to make their home in Moorhead and spent the winter months in Arizona for twenty years. Eli died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, at ninety-five years of age.
Eli is survived by his wife of over seventy-one years, Evelyn, Moorhead; four daughters, Diane (Ron) Evenstad, Treasure Island, FL, Patricia (Roger) Johnson, Columbus, OH, Judith (Jim) Rice, Minnetonka, MN, and Pamela (David) Hanson, Fargo, ND; eleven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Marion) DeJong, Moorhead.
Eli was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister, one grandson, Troy Evenstad, and a son-in-law.
Eli was an active long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, Moorhead, where he served as an ordained elder.
Memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church in Moorhead.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 1, 2009, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The funeral for Eli DeJong will be Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM, in First Presbyterian Church, Moorhead.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
