Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. We remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant, Ellen Marie.
Ellen Marie Alberg was given life by her Creator on June 12, 1930, in Warwick, ND. She was the daughter of Elmer and Marie (Walde) Alberg. She was baptized and confirmed at Warwick Lutheran Church. Ellen attended a one room school in rural North Dakota through 6th grade. Ellen graduated from high school in Warwick in 1948. She earned a two year teaching degree from Valley City Teachers College in 1950.
Ellen married Paul Maassel on October 26, 1952. They were blessed with four children, Mark (Christine), Valparaiso, IN, Sonia Maassel Jacobsen (Eric), Roseville, MN, Sharon Peske (Mark), Bemidji, MN, and Michael (Karen), Fargo.
Ellen completed her Bachelor's degree at Concordia College, Moorhead, in 1972 and her Master's degree in Education at Moorhead State University in 1977. She was a language arts teacher at the West Fargo Middle School for over 20 years. Paul passed away on May 19, 2004. Ellen later moved to the Fairmont Apartments in Moorhead, where she lived until her death. Ellen was a loving wife and mother and was deeply loved. She generously gave herself to her family, church and community. Her faith guided her throughout life.
Ellen and Paul were blessed with 15 grandchildren: Jesse Maassel, Lee Maassel, Jill Freismith (Ryan), Laura Jacobsen, Heather Jacobsen, Daniel Jacobsen, Nathan Peske, Kalika Peske, Michael Peske, Katherine Peske, Matthew Peske, Christopher Peske, Patrick Maassel, Megan Maassel and Benjamin Maassel.
God welcomed Ellen home on May 1, 2011, to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
Visitation is Friday, May 6, from 6 - 8 PM at the Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead.
The Funeral is on Saturday, May 7, at 10:00 AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Burial at Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead.
