Elmer F. Wagar, age 89, of Fargo, ND, died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at MeritCare South University Drive in Fargo.
Elmer Franklin Wagar was born in rural Forest River, ND, on February 7, 1915. He grew up and received his education in the Forest River area.
As a young man he farmed near Forest River and then for one year in Roseau, Minnesota.
On May 27, 1941, Elmer was united in marriage to Hazel R. Johnson, in Valley City, ND, where they made their home. Elmer worked in a local grocery store and a grain elevator before he was employed by Barnes County Co-Op Creamery for more than 30 years. He later worked at Mercy Hospital in Valley City until he retired in 1980.
After retirement, Elmer and Hazel continued to make their home in Valley City. In December of 1999, they moved to Fargo to live. In March of 2003, they both became residents of Bethany Homes in Fargo. Hazel died on August 28, 2003.
Elmer is survived by three daughters, Nancy (August) Jantzon, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Barbara (Bill) Romer, Omaha, NE, and Nadine (Jim) Van Dyke, Valley City; two sons, Mark (Judy) Wagar, West Fargo, ND, and Timothy (Robin) Wagar, Asuncion, Paraguay; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Wagar; and a sister, Pearl Bowman.
