Elmer Jacob Fiechtner was born June 18, 1929, in Guyson, N.D., to Jacob and Christine (Erbele) Fiechtner. He was the oldest of eight children and grew up on a farm near Lehr, N.D. Elmer served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953, and was briefly stationed in Korea. He married JoAnn Herringer on November 6, 1954, in Moorhead, MN.
Elmer worked for Moorhead State University for twenty-five years, until his retirement in 1994, and worked with his wife in their family business, Doctor Cleaners. Elmer also served as an elder at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Elmer loved his family, working outside, talking to new people, singing hymns, playing checkers, and spending time with his dog, Sparky.
Elmer died Friday, October 30, 2009, of natural causes at his home in Moorhead, at eighty years of age.
Elmer is survived by his wife, JoAnn, Moorhead; two daughters, Diane (Jeffrey) Gorden, Elk Point, SD, and Kari (Terry) Erickson, Moorhead; his grandchildren, Vanessa (Daniel Rezac) Gorden, Nicole Erickson and Crystal Gorden; his great-grandson, Dylan Mord; a brother, LeRoy (Lorraine) Feichtner, Carmichael, CA; and five sisters, Lorraine Kirschenmann, Wishek, ND, Alma Kappes, Ashley, ND, Arlene (Jerroll) Fischer, Wheaton, MN, Alice (Paul) Janke, Jamestown, ND, and Marion Huseby, Herreid, SD.
Elmer was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd, Lloyd, Albert and Henry.
Visitation for Elmer will be Tuesday, November 3, 2009, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 11 AM, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
