Elsie O. Olson

Elsie Ostella Olson, 93, Moorhead, MN, died April 20, 2010, under the care of Hospice, Fargo, ND.

Elsie was born August 25, 1916, to William Knute and Mella (Hoiland) Olson in Anthony Township near Halstad, Minnesota.

Elsie received and AA degree from Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught school in Fertile, Ada, Halstad, LaCrescenta, CA, and Moorhead. She also worked for a year in the Loop in downtown Chicago. When Wallace returned from serving in World War II, they chose to be married in 1945 on August 25th, a birthday they shared.
While Wallace farmed, Elsie served on the Halstad School Board until she returned to teaching in Halstad and taught there from 1958-1968. Elsie earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1968 from Moorhead State College. That fall the family moved to Moorhead upon Elsie's acceptance of a teaching position at Washington Elementary School.
Elsie never knew a stranger. She thrived on being with people and loved her wide circle of friends. Over the years she maintained strong bonds with dear friends from the past and found great joy in making new ones.
Elsie is survived by her children; Arlene (Wayne) Skaff, Ramsey, MN, Linda (Marc Lee) Olson, Olalla, WA, and Darrell (Kirsten) Olson, Maple Grove, MN; six grandchildren, Kristen (Gary) Brechler, Brian (Kelli) Skaff, Nicole and Kate Seaver, and Erik and Peder Olson; four great-grand children, Kyle and Micah Brechler, and Emily and Taylor Skaff; her sister, Eleanor (Carroll) Snustad, Moorhead and her sister-in-law, Gudrun (Walter) Olson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace D. Olson; her brothers, Walter, Sam, and Arlen Olson, and her sister, Irene Coffelt. She also leaves behind her wonderful, loving friends and neighbors who were like family to her.
Visitation: Friday, 7 PM to 9 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral service: Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 10:30 AM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.
