Ernest Nordick

April 2, 1920 — February 15, 2008

Ernest George Nordick, 87, Moorhead, MN, went to be with his wife, Dorothie, and daughter ZoAnne, in the arms of our Lord on February 15, 2008, at Rio Grande Valley Regional Hospital, McAllen, TX.


Born at home near Breckenridge, MN, on April 2, 1920, the 9th of 12 children, to Casper and Eva (Link) Nordick, he attended school through 8th grade and worked on the family farm and for the railroad. He married Dorothie M. Holland of Fergus Falls July 14, 1941, making their home in Breckenridge before joining the Army Air Corps. After basic, he moved his family to Fresno, CA, where he was trained for chemical warfare. When he shipped to England, the family returned to Minnesota. After mustering out of the Army Air Corps he returned to his job with the railroad in Breckenridge, moving to Moorhead in 1961 where he retired in 1982 after 39 years.


After retirement he and Dorothie were snowbirds, going to Mission, TX. At the family cabin on Star Lake, he enjoyed visitors, especially watching his grandchildren grow, and gardening which he continued in Mission during the winter until this year due to failing health.


Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, parents, 3 brothers and 6 sisters. He is survived by his sons, Duane (Meg), Wichita, KS, Darrell (Rosette), Perham, MN, Dennis (Melanie), Downer, MN, David (Jewel), Dent, MN, Dale (Darcy), Moorhead, Dan (Carla Broadland), Wahpeton, ND, and Dean (Kris), Fergus Falls, MN; son-in-law, Ed Gonzalez, Mission, TX; as well as 30 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorris Mauch, Mooreton, ND, and Josie Bryan, Thornton, CO.


Visitation: Thursday, 5 PM to 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, with a prayer service at 7 PM.
Funeral: Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, 11 AM, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial: Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
