Ethel A. Edwards

Ethel A. Edwards, 83, of Moorhead, MN, and formerly of Wolverton, MN, passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, on January 5, 2017, with her husband of 55 years at her side after a short battle with an aggressive infection.
Ethel Arlene Olson was born at home in Rothsay, MN, on August 25, 1933. She was the daughter of Christ and Selma Olson. Ethel was baptized, confirmed and raised in Rothsay and graduated from Rothsay High School and later graduated with a degree from Moorhead Teachers College in Moorhead. She taught at Washington Elementary in Moorhead and later moved to Wolverton, to teach at Wolverton Elementary.
It was while in Wolverton that she met her one true love, Earl 'Barney' Edwards. They were married at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rothsay on March 25, 1961. They became active parents to two daughters. Ethel eventually left teaching to raise her girls. She began working at the Wolverton post office in 1977 and later became the U.S. Postmaster there until her retirement in 1997. Ethel was active in her community and church and was a charter member of the Wolverton Ladies Coffee Klatch. Ethel and Barney moved to Moorhead in September of 2011. In 2016 they moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Ethel was very talented in sewing and handwork, particularly Norwegian hardanger embroidery. Many friends and relatives are the recipients of her treasured pieces of hardanger. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook who hosted many family gatherings throughout her life for both the Olson and Edwards families. She was extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage and loved to tend to her flower beds and looked forward to their Sunday drives, mostly in the lakes area around Pelican Rapids, where they were regular Sunday customers of the Cornfield at Dunvilla. Most of all she was proud of her children and grandchildren. She and Barney actively followed the sporting careers of her beloved grandaughters in Moorhead and later NDSU and Concordia.
Ethel is survived by her husband of 55 years, Earl 'Barney' Edwards, residing at Eventide on 8th in Moorhead; two daughters, Kristi Edwards of Eagan, MN, and Julie (Lawson) Stephenson of Moorhead; two granddaughters, Mikaela and Hali Stephenson, both of Moorhead; as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Selma Olson; her sisters, LuAnn McMullen and Margaret Shirley and their husbands, Phil McMullen and Bill Shirley; and one brother, Harry Olson.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 11 AM in Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Wolverton in the spring.
