Eugene "Gene" Fitzgerald

Eugene "Gene" F. Fitzgerald, 79, of Sabin, MN, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, in Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Eugene Frances Fitzgerald was born February 4, 1935, in Moorhead, MN, the son of Edward and Hulda (Brandt) Fitzgerald. He was raised in Sabin and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953. After high school, he joined the Minnesota National Guard, serving for ten years, and worked at Surplus Tractor in Fargo.
On May 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Glenda Kronbeck at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead. They settled in Sabin where he assisted his brother, Ronald, in the operation of Fitzgerald Construction which was started by their father many years earlier.
Gene was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church,; a charter member of the Sabin/Elmwood Fire Department; where he also served as Fire Chief for many years; and a charter member of the Sabin Lion's Club, where he was a member for 40 years.
He enjoyed spending free time at his Pelican Lake home entertaining friends and family, especially the children, who were the love of his life. Gene also enjoyed visiting and joking with all the people he met over the years in the construction business.
Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Glenda; brother, Ronald (Lucy) Fitzgerald, Moorhead; sisters, Janet (Douglas) Marquart, Moorhead, Pat (Lloyd) Wilke, Bismarck, ND, and Diane (John) Rogne, Fargo; brothers-in-law, Fred Kennedy, Moorhead, and Vance Kittilstved, Fargo; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Hulda Fitzgerald; and sisters, Janice Kittilstved and Kathryn Kennedy.
Memorials may be directed to the Sabin/Elmwood Fire Department or the Sabin Lion's Club.
Visitation for Gene is Friday, June 20, 2014, from 5 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Sabin.
His funeral mass will be Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 10:30 AM, in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Sabin.
He will be buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
