Eugene Arthur Hamre was born February 28, 1931, on the family farm near Leonard, ND, to Arthur and Anna (Meier) Hamre. Eugene was raised in that area where he attended rural schools for his education.
At the age of seventeen, Eugene entered the armed forces and served four years with the 82nd Airborne. Following his discharge, he moved to Minneapolis, MN. Eugene moved to Seattle, WA, in 1956, and worked for Boeing Aircraft and later for one of their subsidiaries as a supervisor. Eugene was married for a time.
Eugene retired in 1996 and moved to Fargo, ND. He enjoyed coffee with his brother-in-law, and driving around town in his little red pickup.
Eugene died Friday, March 22, 2013, at his residence in Fargo, at eighty-two years of age.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Marvin Van Zante, Fargo; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Dorothy Ann Van Zante.
Burial will take place in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
