Evarae Rasmussen was born October 26, 1944, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Ray and Jessie (Randall) Rasmussen. She was raised in Frazee, MN, where she graduated from high school in 1962. She furthered her education at Moorhead (MN) State University and Bemidji (MN) State University.
Evarae worked for a time as a secretary for an insurance company in St. Paul, MN, and then for Phillips 66 in Moorhead and Fargo, ND. She was united in marriage to Ralph Herbst on June 17, 1967, in Frazee, and they made their home in Moorhead. Evarae invested her time at home raising their children but as they grew older and went off to school, she returned to work in the food service department at Thomas Edison Elementary School in Moorhead. She retired in 2001.
Evarae was very active in her family's life. She served as a leader in Girl Scouts as well as the church youth group. She enjoyed playing bridge, listening to country music, walks in the neighborhood, and winding down the day by reading The Forum newspaper. She treasured her time with her grandchildren and spending the summertime at Pelican Lake.
Evarae passed away suddenly on Monday, April 27, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, at sixty-four years of age. Her generous spirit will continue to live on as Evarae chose to be an organ donor. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers.
Evarae is survived by her husband, Ralph, Moorhead; a son, Michael Herbst, Barnesville, MN, and his children, Brittney, Brandon and Benjamin; three daughters, Michelle (Kenneth) Johnson, Rosholt, SD, and their children, Alexis, Matthew and Jesse; Melissa
A Celebration of Life service for Evarae will be Friday, May 1, 2009, at 11 AM in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead.
