Evelyn DeJong

Evelyn DeJong, 96, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, January 17, 2016, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

Evelyn Marie Ledeboer was born April 1, 1919, in Prinsburg, MN, to Mary and Garritt Ledeboer. She was the oldest of eleven siblings and she shared many great stories of growing up in such a big family.

On September 10, 1937, Evelyn married Eli DeJong in the family home in Prinsburg. They moved to Moorhead and had lived in Moorhead for 79 years, where as a stay-at-home mom she raised four daughters.

Evelyn was very involved in her church work at First Presbyterian Church. She served on many committees and was president of the ladies circles for a number of years, along with serving as a Bible study leader and deacon.

Evelyn is survived by four daughters, Diane (Ron) Evenstad, Treasure Island, FL, Patricia (Roger) Johnson, Columbus, OH, Judith (James) Rice, Minnetonka, MN, and Pamela (David) Hanson, Fargo, ND; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Samuels, Moorhead, Marion (Donald) DeJong, Moorhead, Dorothy Taft, California, Myrna (Ted) Taft, Arizona, and Linda Winn, California; and brothers, Allen (Vonna) Ledeboer, Olivia, MN, and Leroy (Lois) Ledeboer, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Eli; grandson, Troy Evenstad; sister, Joyce Johnson; brothers, Garritt Ledeboer and Marty Ledeboer; and son-in-law, Terry Ottenweller.

Visitation for Mrs. DeJong will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016, from 10 AM until 11 AM, with her funeral service at 11 AM in First Presbyterian Church, 2900 5th Street South, Moorhead. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo
