Evelyn H. Hoyem went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, surrounded by her family, at the age of 99 years.
Evelyn was born in Walcott, ND, on June 30, 1908, to Henry and Helena (Bredeson) Ellenson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Walcott Lutheran Church and went to school in Walcott.
Evelyn was married to H. Melvin Hoyem (known as Pants) in Moorhead, MN, in November of 1926. They lived in Christine, ND, for many years where she was a telephone switchboard operator, when it was the only phone in Christine. She also had a café for a few years in the 1940's. Evelyn was a member of the Christine Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aide, Homemakers Club, PTA, and Royal Neighbors.
Their home burned down in 1950 so they moved to Fargo and Evelyn went to work for McKesson-Robbins Drug Co. as a price auditor for twenty years until they retired in 1970. They then moved to their home on Blanche Lake, which they dearly loved. Evelyn moved to Park View Terrace in Moorhead in 1981. She did volunteer work there for eleven years for which she received many awards.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Nelson, Fargo; one son, R.M. "Hunce" (Pat) Hoyem, West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Vicki (Jon) Morken, Vail, CO, Pam (David) Jacobs, Harwood, ND, Julie (David) Dahlstrom, West Fargo, Greg (Wendy) Hoyem, Fargo, and Deb (Pete) Martin, Georgetown, TX; eight great-grandchildren, Alisha and Adriana Morken, Amanda and Ross Jacobs, Jamie and Alexandria Hoyem, Jenny (Clay) Askew, and Ashley Martin; three great-great-grandsons, Mason Lee Askew, Brady Askew, and Quentin Jacobs; a dear sister-in-law, Grace Rudlang, Edmonds, WA, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Monie; a son-in-law, Harry Nelson; a grandson, Doug Nelson; five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation: Monday from 9 - 11 AM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Service: Monday, March 17, 2008, at 11 AM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Christine Cemetery, Christine.
