Evelyn M. Huard, age 85, of Moorhead, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Evelyn Muriel Gullickson, daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Torpet) Gullickson, was born February 27, 1918, at Fertile, MN, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Fertile High School in 1936. She attended beauty school in Grand Forks, ND, and worked at a beauty shop in East Grand Forks, MN. The beauty shop was operated by a Japanese American family, who was interned in California, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and Evelyn never heard from them again.
On October 3, 1945, Evelyn married Hector Huard, at Fertile. They lived in Grand Forks for five years and then moved to Detroit Lakes, MN. In Detroit Lakes, she worked at Rossman Elementary School for 25 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an award-winning bowler. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. One of the highlights in her life was traveling with family to Norway to visit relatives she had never met.
In April of 2002, Evelyn became a resident of the Moorhead Healthcare Center in Moorhead. In the summer of 2002, she became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Hector, Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Randi (Kent) Weisser, Moorhead, and Peggy Hanson, Bemidji, MN; a son, Richard Huard, Baldwin, WI; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Whitney Weisser, of whom Evelyn was so proud.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, a brorher, Ervin Gullickson, and her sister-in-law, Gertie Gullickson
