Fern L. Steen Moen, 72, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, February 19, 2009, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Fern Lamonna Skare was born November 20, 1936, to Sivert and Tillie (Gilbertson) Skare in Ada, MN, where she grew up and graduated from high school. After graduation, Fern worked at the Ada Hospital and the hospital in Crookston, MN.
On October 26, 1956, Fern married Morris Steen and they made their home on a farm outside of Halstad, MN. Fern was an active member of the East Marsh River Lutheran Church and was a 4-H Leader.
In 1995, Fern and Morris moved to Fargo. Morris died in January of 1997 and Fern continued to make her home in Fargo. On August 17, 2003, Fern married Glenn Moen. They were active members of the Sons of Norway and at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo.
Fern also enjoyed bowling, reading, needlework and gardening. Her welcoming personality drew many friends to her and she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Fern is survived by her husband, Glenn, Fargo; two sons, Craig (Patti) Steen, Halstad and Sheldon (Renee) Steen, Casselton, ND; her mother, Tillie Skare, Moorhead, MN; two brothers, Warren Skare and Wallace (Cheryl) Skare, both of Moorhead; six grandchild
In addition to her first husband, Morris, Fern was preceded in death by her father and a sister-in-law, Gloria.
Visitation: Tuesday ,12 PM to2 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Funeral: Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at 2 PM at Peace Lutheran Church,
1011 12th Ave. N., Fargo.
Burial: East Marsh River Lutheran Cemetery, rural Halstad, MN, in the spring.
