Francis James Kukowski, 76, rural Georgetown, MN, died at his home on Friday, November 4, 2011. Francis, the son of Frank and Agnes (Denery) Kukowski, was born July 13, 1935, in Fargo, ND. He grew up and attended the country school in Georgetown.
Francis also attended St. John's Prep School in Collegeville, MN, for two years. He graduated from Shanley High School in Fargo in 1953.
As a young man, he farmed with his father, until he entered the US Army. Francis served overseas in Germany, and traveled extensively in Europe. After discharge, he returned to farm near Georgetown. In 1959, he was married to Carol Myren. In 1974, he married Kathleen Wilson. In 1996, he married Joan Diesch.
Francis loved to farm and care for his farmstead. His love for geography and history led him to becomean accomplished amateur photographer. Francis also traveled to 17 different countries and 45 states. He has done a number of books of photos, including collections of grain elevators, bridges, churches and courthouses.
Francis is survived by six children, David, Ray, ND, Ruth, Fargo, Nancy, Minneapolis, MN, John (Valerie), Irvine, CA, Georgia (Peter Quady), Sacramento, CA, and Karla (Jordan Carlson), Fairbanks, AK; five grandchildren, Whitney, Christopher, Sylvan, Talia and India; a brother, Tom (Phyllis), Georgetown; a special friend, Sharon Teberg; his beloved dog, Sparky; and several nieces and nephews.
