Frank Matejka, 86, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Breckenridge, MN, died Friday, October 12, 2012, at his home in Fargo.
Frank J. Matejka was born October 28, 1925, in Breckenridge, the son of Frank A. and Mary (Cerny) Matejka. After graduating from high school in Breckenridge in 1943, Frank went to work the Great Northern Railroad. In December of 1943 he entered the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Upon returning home he attended Moorhead (MN) State College. After college he went back to work on the Great Northern Railroad as a locomotive engineer. He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in Dilworth, MN, in 1988.
On November 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Rick of Pelican Rapids, MN. They resided in Breckenridge until 1973 when they moved to Moorhead. In 1986 they moved to Fargo where they presently reside.
Frank was a member of Moorhead Knights of Columbus, Fargo Elks Lodge #260, the Disabled American Veterans Post #1 of Fargo and American Legion Post #53 in Breckenridge. He was also a member of the Red River Valley Senior Golf League. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and playing with his granddaughter.
Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou; two sons, Thomas of Breckenridge, and Jerald (Beverly) of Gillette WY; three daughters, Susan of Fargo, Nancy (Bryce) Boehler of Lisbon, ND, and Janet of Fargo; granddaughter, Bailey Boehler; stepgrandchildren, Chad Hingst, Kally Glander, Barry Crowell, Craig Crowell and Wade Mesker; great-stepgrandchild, Breinne Glander and great-great-stepgrandchild, Thomas Glander.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elizabeth Bina and Helen Gunness; daughter-in-law, Carole Matejka and stepgrandchildren, Lloyd Hingst, Jr., and Dawn Crowell.
Visitation: Monday, 5 pm to 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, October 16, , 2012, at 10:30 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN
