Gail Elaine Connelly was born March 10, 1941, to Lawrence and Ruth (Thompson) Connelly in Fargo, ND. She grew up on the Connelly family farm north of Sabin, MN. Gail graduated from Moorhead High School in 1959 and then attended nursing school in Crookston, MN, where she obtained the status of LPN.
She worked as a nurse in multiple roles, ranging from the emergency room, operating room, and nursing homes in Redondo Beach, CA, Fargo-Moorhead, and St. George, UT. Gail married Raymond Suko on October 21, 1966, in South Dakota.
After working 30 years in the nursing field, she decided to follow her dream of running a restaurant and with her husband, purchased the Ye Olde Schoolhouse Bar and Grill in Edwards, MN, in 1991. Her husband Ray passed away in 1993, and she ran the business for another 17 years on her own.
Gail retired in 2011, to her lake cabin on Tamarac Lake in Otter Tail County, MN, where she was able to spend time with her family, whom she loved very much. She was an avid reader, recipe collector, bingo player, crossword puzzle expert, and cook. She was well-known for her specialties at the restaurant which included spaghetti and meatballs, and fish on Fridays. Her "secret" French dressing recipe was very much in demand.
On Saturday, June 4, 2016, at her Tamarac Lake home, Gail Connelly Suko lost her courageous battle with cancer, at seventy-five years of age.
She is survived by a daughter, Roxanne (Gary) Rasmussen; sons, Paul, Tom, John (Sheri), and Shane (Donna); grandchildren, Rachel (Maxwell) Dusky, Dustin (Brooke) Suko, Ashley (Alex) Johnson, Kaitlyn Suko, and Colin Suko; great-grandchildren, Caleb Corn, Anna Corn, Benjamin Corn, McKenzie Suko, Briar Suko, Britton Suko, Brink Suko, and Bronx Suko; and a sister, Marge (Gerald "Butch") Barth.
