Gary Joseph Sauvageau was born March 6, 1959, to Patrick and Gloria (Panchott) Sauvageau and was the youngest of their 5 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert. He is survived by his sister, Georgia (Craig) Anderson; and brothers, Tim and Willard Sauvageau. He is also survived by family, Ron and Janet Nordby, Mike and Amy Nordby and children, Chris and Nicole Kohler and children, Matt Nordby and children, Justin and Stephanie McCann and children, and special friends Rowan and Rosa.
Gary (Gare Bear) was a gentle and loving soul who blessed the lives of everyone he encountered. He had a twinkle in his eye and a high five for everyone. He and his friend Rowan would spend time with each other, talking back and forth in their own special language.
He'd listen closely to conversations and would respond with a loud laugh if he thought it was funny. He had a laugh like no other and giggled with pure joy. He found it especially funny when there was a good argument going on.
Gary loved to ride in the car and would insist on riding "shotgun". He also enjoyed rides on the golf cart, relaxing at the lake, and participating in the commotion when the family was all together.
Oatmeal Cream Pies were Gary's favorite treat. He would run (with his walker) just to get one. He was also sneaky, once even stealing a swig of Ron's beer when nobody was looking. He thought it was the funniest thing ever; he had the best belly laugh.
We didn't know how our lives would change when Gary moved in 10 years ago. He quickly became our family and enriched our lives in ways hard to measure. Gary, or Uncle Gary, has been one of our biggest blessings and will be greatly missed. Gary died on January 9, 2022.
The funeral service for Gary will be Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 1 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, Minnesota.
