Gaye Hannestad

Gaye L. Hannestad, 70, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Gaye Linda Tweiten was born on June 7, 1954, in Fargo, ND, to Grant and Oreal (Larson) Tweiten. Growing up in Fargo, Gaye was a proud graduate of Fargo South High School in 1972. She attended college in Wahpeton, ND, (NDSCS) where she earned her degree as a Dental Assistant.

Gaye dedicated nearly 30 years of her professional life as a skilled Dental Assistant in Fargo, a role that not only showcased her expertise but also her genuine compassion for others. Throughout her career, she was known for her warmth and kindness. Gaye was married to Kevin Hannestad from 1987 to 1990. In 1988, they welcomed their son, Zach.

Outside her career, Gaye was a woman of many interests. She found joy and solace in writing poetry, expressing her innermost thoughts through verse. Her love for gardening was evident, as she took great pride in nurturing her plants and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Gaye also possessed a beautiful singing voice, often sharing her gift with loved ones. She was known for her passionate personality and strong independence. Never one to place herself above others, she consistently prioritized the needs of those around her.

Gaye was a devoted mother, and her proudest accomplishment was her son, Zach, who remained the center of her life. Her love for him was unconditional and unwavering, and she took immense pride in her role as his mother. She also had a special, loving bond with her cats— "Codee", "Joey", and "Dallas." These furry companions were an integral part of her life and brought her great joy. 

Gaye will be deeply missed by her son, Zachary Hannestad of Moorhead; siblings, Veronica (Larry) Nelson, Gary Tweiten, twin sister, Gail Setervang; and special friend, Tom Morrison. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carolyn (Richard) Post; and brother-in-law, John Setervang.

The family would like to thank Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, and Hospice of Red River Valley for the wonderful care they provided during Gaye’s last weeks.

A private celebration of life will be held at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service of Moorhead.
