Geneva Olstad, 70, Fargo, ND, passed away in her home on Sunday, June 1, 2014.
Geneva Roth was born on April 29, 1944, on the farm in McIntosh County, ND, to Edward and Lydia (Salzer) Roth. She graduated from Ashley (ND) High School in 1962, and then attended Medtech College in Minneapolis, MN.
On June 25, 1967, she married Dennis A. Olstad, in Wishek, ND. They made their home in Fargo, where Geneva worked as a technician for the US Department of Agriculture.
Geneva had many eclectic interests. She was a certified Master Gardener and taught classes, having a large park-like Japanese style garden herself. She wrote five books on subjects as broad as genealogy, North Dakota postcards, and family history. She started a website database of North Dakota cemetery names and gravestones. She and Dennis managed to catalog all of McIntosh County's cemeteries with pictures and dates. She was quilter and also a collector of many things including what is (probably) the largest collection of toothpick holders in the state! Her greatest love, though, was her family, especially her granddaughter, Allison.
Geneva is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dennis; son, Terry (Stephanie) Olstad of Shakopee, MN; granddaughter, Allison; sister, June (Oscar) Kemmet; nieces and nephews, Pat (Dave) Badgley, Polly (Ken) Huber, Wayne (Laurie) Kemmet, and Jackie (Kordel) Bauer; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Troy; and her parents.
