Genevieve Patricia Marie Papenfuss was born March 17, 1921, to Frank and LaBerta (Tully) Papenfuss, in Bowesmont, ND. Genevieve was raised in the Bowesmont area and attended school at Cavalier, ND. She graduated from high school in St. Thomas, ND, in 1939.
Genevieve lived in East Grand Forks, MN, where she worked at a number of restaurants as a waitress. It was there she met Warren P. Sunde. They were united in marriage on July 28, 1947, in Crookston, MN.
They moved to Dilworth, MN, in 1954, and Genevieve continued to work as a waitress in the Fargo-Moorhead-Dilworth area. Warren died January 14, 1998, and she continued to reside in Dilworth. Genevieve entered Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND, in December of 2009.
Best known as Gen by her family and friends, Gen lived her life loving and caring about others. She had a generous spirit and great sense of humor. Gen valued her Dilworth Lutheran Church family and enjoyed many life-long friendships as an active member. Gen was a volunteer at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, for many years. In her younger years, Gen loved square dancing. She enjoyed playing cards with family and doing crossword puzzles. Gen's life revolved around family, and in the past few years that included her "Rosewood family." She will be dearly missed.
Genevieve died Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Rosewood on Broadway, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at ninety-one years of age.
Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Pat (Del) Palloch, Moorhead, MN; son, Stephen (Alice) Sunde, Cushing, MN; grandchildren, Chris (Sheila) Palloch, Fort Worth, TX, Jason (Patty) Palloch, Fargo, Corey (Laurie) Ness, Holdrege, NE, Amy (Jarred) Johnson, Glyndon, MN, Lisa (Chad) Klemetson, Dilworth, KariJo Gaddie, East Grand Forks, MN, and Brenda (Billy) Arp, Early, TX; and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Genevieve was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendolyn "Wendy"; and two sons, Dean and Warren Jr.
The funeral for Genevieve will be Monday, October 22, 2012, at 1 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be at the church on Monday, from 12 noon to 1 PM.
Burial will follow in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
