Gerald R. Rasmussen

Gerald R. Rasmussen, age 86, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 in the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Gerald Rudolph Rasmussen, the son of Rudolph and Marilla (Moore) Rasmussen, was born in Fargo, on January 29, 1923. The family moved to Dilworth, MN, and then to Moorhead, where Gerald grew up and received his education. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1941.
Gerald served his country in the US Army, during WWII. He served overseas including in Okinawa. While home on leave from the service, Gerald was united in marriage to Ruth L. Tweten on Oct. 9, 1943. After his discharge from the Army, the couple made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Gerald worked for Dakota Sash and Door Company and then owned and operated Rasmussen Wood-working in Moorhead for many years.
Gerald was a wonderful woodworker and carpenter. He built both the family home as well as their lake home on Lake Melissa, near Detroit Lakes, MN, where the family enjoyed many wonderful times. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a life member of the VFW. Most important to him was his faith in Jesus and his love of his family.


His wife, Ruth, died on Oct. 19, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rudy.
Gerald is survived by a daughter, Danelle (Dennis) Grosz, Sartell, MN; four sons, Dalan (Diane) Rasmussen, Moorhead, Dana (Wanda) Rasmussen, Lisbon, ND, Dean (Chris) Rasmussen, Lincoln, NE, and Darcy Rasmussen, Dilworth; sisters, Delores Nichelson, Fargo
Visitation: Friday, 4 PM to 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 2 PM, in Brookdale Baptist Church, Moorhead.
