Gilman Stewart Flaagan was born August 9, 1912, near Tolna, ND, to Martin and Regina "Gina" (Thorson) Flaagan. He was raised in Pekin, ND, where he attended school.
Gilman proudly served his country in WW II, serving in Battery A, 383rd Field Artillery Battalion of the 45th Infantry Division. He served in Sicily and up through Italy, France and into Germany where they helped in the liberation of the concentration camps. Following his discharge, Gilman came to Fargo, ND, where he graduated from Dakota Business College.
Gilman served as an accountant in the Fargo-Moorhead area for many years. He retired as a civil service employee at the Minot (ND) Air Force Base and returned to Fargo at that time. Gilman entered the Homestead Living Center, Deer River, MN, where he died Friday, February 3, 2006, at ninety-three years of age
Gilman is survived by his son, Martin, Hemet CA; and daughters, Maureen Flaagan, Phoenix, AZ, and Anita (Jerry) Dederick, Deer River; Adrick Semmer, who was like a grandson, Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Amie (Clayton) Aaser, McVille, ND, and Irene Spidahl, Kenyon, MN; and brothers, Benhard (Viola) Flaagan, Pekin, and A. Kenneth (Constance) Flaagan, Fargo; sisters-in-law, Thora Danielson, Portland, OR, Eva (Jerry Claassen) Erdman Claassen, Crookston, MN, and Mabel Pederson, Fargo; and a brother-in-law, Leonard (Margaret) Pederson, Las Vegas, NV.
Gilman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna (Pederson); parents, Martin and Gina; an infant brother, Gordon, and another brother Gordon; sister, Erva Spidahl; brothers-in-law, Arnold Spidahl, and Ernest Spidahl; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Flaagan. On Edna's side, Gilman was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, E.B. Pederson, Clarence Pederson, Arthur Pederson, Isak Pederson, Walter Pederson, A.E. Danielson, Walter Erdman, and A.D. Shockman; and sisters-in-law, Mildred Shockman, Evelyn Pederson, and Stella Pederson.
Visitation for Gilman will be Wednesday, February 8, 2006, from 5 PM to 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His funeral will be Thursday, February 9, 2006, at 1:00 PM, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial will follow in Moorhead Memorial Gar
