Ginny Anderson, age 90, passed away peacefully Monday, August 5, 2019, at New Perspective Senior Living in West Fargo, ND, with her daughters by her side.
Ginny Mohn was born September 7, 1928, in Lake Park, MN, to Thomas and Adella (Ristvedt) Mohn. She was third in a family of four children. Ginny attended a one-room country school house 1 ½ miles from her home and walked each day unless the weather was particularly bad. This is when her love for walking started and didn't stop until she was wheelchair bound in late February 2019.
At age 14 she moved with her family to a farm near Detroit Lakes, MN, and graduated high school in 1945. Upon graduation, she became the secretary for the principal of Detroit Lakes High School and worked there until 1947 when she moved to Moorhead, MN, and started working at American State Bank.
In 1949, she was introduced to Lyle Anderson on a blind date. She knew he was the one by the third date and they married on June 10, 1950, at Lake Park (MN) Lutheran Church. They made their home in Moorhead and were blessed with three children.
Ginny loved square dancing, gardening, teaching Sunday school, sewing, and spending time at their lake cabin in Minnesota. She was an avid quilter where she sent many quilts overseas with her quilting club and made a special quilt for each of her seven grandchildren. She loved the times on the open road in the RV with Lyle, traveling the country and visiting family. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially around Christmas.
She is survived by her husband Lyle, of 69 years; children, Kathy (Kent) Yohe, Fargo, ND, Pat (Don) Pike, Fargo, and Tom (Allison) Anderson, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Mark (Michelle) Yohe, Allison (Dave) Harmon, Katie (Brett) Mitchell, Laura (Darrick) Buchholz, Taylor, Rachel, and Alex Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Christian Harmon, Grace Yohe and Charlie Mitchell. She is also survived by her siblings, Dorothy Feir, Park Rapids, MN; Warren Mohn, Detroit Lakes, and Dick Mohn, Vergas, MN; a sister-in-law, Betty Pederson, Sioux Falls, SD; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ginny's mind is now free from dementia and her eyes can see clearly again as she no longer suffers from macular degeneration. She is now walking the streets of Heaven with Jesus! In her own words, "The most important legacy from my parents was the spiritual values I observed from their lives, which brought me to my personal faith in Christ. Family Values were certainly a part of our family. I can only hope and pray for those values to be accepted by our children and grandchildren for generations to come."
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Gideons International.
Visitation will be Sunday August 11, 2019, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The Funeral Service will be Monday, August 12, 2019, at 2:00 PM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
