Gladys L. Rehn Broberg

April 20, 1911 — September 30, 2008

Gladys "Gladie" Louisa Rehn was born April 20, 1911, in Moorhead, MN, to Emil & Ida Rehn. She was the middle of five children, having a brother and sister older than her and a brother and sister younger than her. They were a close family.
Gladie lived with her mother and brother, Morris, for several years. She had a great love and sense of responsibility for her family. Nephew, Harry O'Neil, recounts a time when his mother, Eva, Gladie's oldest sister, needed a surgery. Times were tough and there wasn't enough money. Gladie stepped in and paid for the surgery and Harry was able to pay her back over time from his Navy salary. She was always caring and giving.

Gladie was a professional woman. She attended Fargo Business College which offered a "business course, providing thorough instruction in bookkeeping, business forms and practice". During this time she lived with Bertha & Walter Gullen, her aunt & uncle. One of her first jobs was working as a housekeeper for the Brady family. When she graduated, she went to work as a secretary for the Brady Motor Company. When the motor company closed she became an executive secretary at Western States Life Insurance Company. Gladie was a perfectionist and it showed in her professional accomplishments. She was well respected in the business community.

The greatest day in Gladie's life was when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her life was exemplary in Christian faith and service. She served faithfully at First Assembly in Fargo for decades. She believed in teaching children about the love of Jesus and served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She also served as the church bookkeeper well into her retirement years.
Even though Gladie was petite, quiet and extra polite, she had a great sense of adventure. She made several trips to Israel and Europe. Despite her battle with macular degeneration in her later years, she traveled extensively throughout the United States from Florida to Alaska. Like many, she had a spoon collection signifying her many journeys.

Gladie had a great wit and sense of humor. It was hard to pull one over on Gladie. Nephew Harry recounts the day when Gladie told him she was taking a trip to Alexandria, MN. He wanted to drive her, but she had already arranged a bus ride. He took her to the bus station for the trip. On the way she confided in him that not only was she going on this trip, but she would be taking a longer trip as she was going to be married! Since Gladie was 78 years old, this was quite some news and a surprise to her entire family.

On June 4, 1989, Gladie married Roger Broberg. They resided in Alexandria where they continued to be active with their family and church. They attended many church revival and camp meetings and took several trips; spending winters in Florida and visiting family and friends on a regular basis. On February 5, 2005, they moved to Willow Creek Assisted Living in Henning, MN. Gladie's health began to fail and she has resided at the Golden Living Center in Henning since October 14, 2006. It was there that she died on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at the age of ninety-seven.

Gladie was one of the most gracious, delightful people anyone could meet. With her sweet smile and firm hand shake, Gladie had a way of drawing you in as her friend. Gladie was an encourager and always brought peace to those she was with. She was a gre
