Glen Harold Wichman was born Dec. 13, 1923, on a farm north of Buffalo, ND, to Paul and Esther (Paulson) Wichman. Glen attended Cornell Township school and then graduated from high school in Tower City, ND, in 1941. He was confirmed at Buffalo Lutheran Church in 1941.
Glen worked on the Muir farm until he enlisted in the Navy Seabees in 1942. He served in the Solomon Islands and the South West Pacific. After a trip stateside, Glen was sent to Okinawa near the conclusion of the war and was discharged on Jan. 30, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN, after three years and four days of service.
Glen was united in marriage to Vivian Olson on March 18, 1953, in Moorhead where they made their home. Glen worked forty-one years as a heavy-duty truck mechanic, beginning with Myhra Equipment, Fargo, ND. He worked for Sizer Trucking, Rochester, MN, for seventeen years and then back to Fargo with Peterbilt for fifteen years. Glen retired in 1988. With his family by his side, Glen died Friday, December 3, 2004 in his home in Moorhead, under hospice care, at eighty years of age.
Glen enjoyed many hobbies, including metal detecting, and building furniture and picture frames. He also built weaving looms and wove rugs. For thirty-one years, Glen and Vivian traveled to his navy reunions across much of the United States.
Glen is lovingly survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Vivian, Moorhead; son, Carl, Fargo; sister, Elizabeth (Ben) Schmitz and family, Pelican Rapids, MN; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Wichman and son, and Maxine Schreiner and family; and honorary daughter, Jola (Kelley) Johnson and their children, Hector, MN. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale.
