Glenda Marie Boren was born September 15, 1944, in Beaver, OK, to Glenn and Villa (Slovacek) Boren. She was raised on a small farm near Booker, TX, by her mother and grandparents, Joe and Jenny Slovacek. Glenda attended school in Booker, where she graduated from high school in 1962. While Glenda was in high school, she was active in basketball, volleyball and cheerleading.
After high school, Glenda completed beautician school in Amarillo, TX, and then moved to Denver, CO. Glenda met her husband, Joe Dickason, in Denver and they were married May 10, 1969, in Perryton, TX. They moved to Anchorage, AK, later that year where Joe worked for the state of Alaska and Elmendorf AFB. Glenda and Joe's children, Tim and Jennifer, were both born in Alaska. In May of 1974, they moved to Albuquerque, NM, where Joe had accepted a job with the Veterans Administration. In 1975, the family moved to Moorhead, MN, as Joe accepted employment with the Veterans Administration in Fargo, ND. Tim and Jennifer completed their education in Moorhead.
Glenda's source of joy was her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching them participate in sports and other school activities. Glenda's career included working for various insurance and retail businesses in Fargo, ND, where she made many lasting friendships. Glenda was a licensed insurance agent and worked as a customer service representative. Glenda and Joe were active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead. The church community as well as her many friends' prayers have sustained Glenda and her family during her long period of illness.
In the presence of her family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, Glenda died at home on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at sixty-three years of age, from complications of a surgical wound as well as liver and kidney failure. Glenda had bravely battled numerous medical problems for years.
Glenda is survived by her husband, Joe, of Moorhead; her daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Anderson, of rural Glyndon, MN; her son, Dr. Timothy (Haydee) Dickason, Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Devinne Anderson (age eleven), twins Hunter and Blake (ages six), a
Visitation for Glenda will be Sunday, March 30, 2008, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral mass will be Monday, March 31, 2008, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be next to her granddaughter in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
