Gloria Vivian Presler was born June 27, 1926, in Fort Worth, TX, to Charles Byron and Minnie Lee (Alford) Presler. The family moved to Branson, MO, when she was young. They later moved to Big Lake, MN, where the family farmed. During World War II, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter", putting together balancing weights for B52 Bombers.
Gloria met her future husband, Alvin "Maynard" Olson, when she was sixteen years old and he ask her to marry him three times. During World War II, while Maynard was stationed in Okinawa, he sent back a bolt of silk, telling her it would make a very nice wedding dress. It was at this time she finally said yes. They were married on August 16, 1947, in Staples, MN.
They made their home in Cambridge, MN, where she worked in a photograph shop developing and processing film. Gloria and Maynard moved to Dilworth, MN, in 1964. Over the years and prior to attending college, Gloria worked as the head cook at Americana Nursing Home in Fargo. At the age of sixty-five, Gloria graduated from Northwest Technical College with a degree in accounting. She then worked as a bookkeeper at American Welding in West Fargo, ND. Maynard died April 20, 2007.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fargo and active in the Ladies Circle.
Gloria died peacefully in the presence and care of her family, with assistance from Hospice of the Red River Valley, Thursday, April 28, 2016, at eighty-nine years of age.
She is survived by her son, Glen Olson, Fargo, ND; daughters, Illona Hall, Big Lake, MN, and Tammy Olson, Dilworth; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; an infant son, Maynard; and a sister, Margaret.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 10 AM, in First United Methodist Church, Fargo.
Burial will be Wednesday at 3:30 PM, in Motley Public Cemetery, Motley, MN.
