Gordon D. Johnson, age 82, of Fargo, ND, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, in Sanford Palliative Care, surrounded by his loving family.
Gordon Dennis Johnson, the son of Carl and Alice (Benson) Johnson, was born in Fargo on January 7, 1929. He grew up and received his education in Fargo, where he graduated from Fargo Central in 1947. As a young man, Gordy went to work for WW Wallwork Ford in Moorhead. He joined the Air National Guard and served on active duty in Wyoming, California, and Georgia.
On December 29, 1953, Gordy married Marjorie Settje in Corona, SD, and they made their home in Fargo. Gordy continued to work at Wallworks until he became an employee of the North Dakota Air National Guard, where he worked as a mechanic in their motor pool until retiring in 1989. After retiring, Gordy worked at the Trash Depot in Moorhead, and for many years at ADESA, formerly Tri-State Auto Auction, Fargo.
Gordon had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. He was a longtime member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, where he served willingly in many capacities. He was also an active volunteer at Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo. Gordy will be remembered as a handyman, who could solve almost any car problem.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marge, Fargo; sons, David, Fargo, and Steve, Scottsdale, AZ; daughters, Sheri Wolcott, Richmond, Vermont, Tammy (Jeff) Conant, Fargo, and Patti (Anthony) Cavaniola, Westwood, NJ; a brother, Maurice (Donna) Johnson, Hugo, MN; a sister, Doris Allen, Urbandale, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Donna Mae Johnson, Medina, MN; and nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Kate), Rachel and Ben Wolcott, Devin and Desiree Johnson, Justin (Christine) and Travis Conant, and Nicholas and Andrew Cavaniola. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Eugene; son-in-law, Alan Wolcott; and daughter-in-law, Deanna Johnson.
Visitation: Friday, 5 PM to 8 PM, with prayer service at 8 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at 10 AM in Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
