Grace Jeanie Bahl, 95, of Moorhead, MN, passed away September 24, 2012, surrounded by her loved ones at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.
Grace was born on the family farm near Moorhead on January 18, 1917, to Fred and Irene (Amundsgaard) Meyers. She graduated from Minnesota State Teachers College High School in 1936.
After high school, Grace married Neil Bahl and they lived and worked on her family's farm in Moorhead. They raised four children together and loved spending time at their lake place on Middle Cormorant. During World War II, Grace worked at Fairmont Creamery in Moorhead. In 1950, she and her husband, Neil, opened Bahl Cleaners in Dilworth and they later owned and operated Star Dairy routes in the F-M area. In her 70s and 80s, Grace was described as one of the "usual crowd" of volunteers for the Red Cross where she and her friends spent much of their time helping wherever needed.
To know Grace was to see true grace in action. Her kindness was never ending and everyone was always welcome in her home, no matter what. Her spirit and love of play made her so much fun to be around her entire life and she could always be found surrounded by friends and family. She was never too busy to play cards, say a kind word, read to a child, fish at the lake or welcome an unexpected guest for dinner. We will miss hearing her play her harmonica and accordion, listening to her signature whistle, her laugh, her love of life and above all her huge amazing heart.
Everyone who met Grace was amazed by her compassion, determination and selflessness. She genuinely cared about everyone and considered them a friend. Grace's example will continue to inspire those who knew her and to say she will be missed seems an understatement. What a blessing Grace has been to so many.
Grace is survived by her children, Irene Butler, Moorhead, Donald (Ardelle) Bahl, CA, and Roseann (Dave) Radel, Moorhead; her sister, Ruth Schulz, Jamestown, ND; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Grace was preceded in death by her h
