Grace H. Bennefeld

Grace Harriet (Stadum) Bennefeld, 93, Moorhead, MN, died July 18, 2012, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead. The daughter of Anders and Joyce (Eidsmoe) Stadum, Grace was born July 2, 1919, in Ada, MN. She grew up in the Ada-Borup area and graduated from Borup High School. During World War II, she worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA.
Grace married Morris Bennefeld on September 3, 1941. They lived in Ada until 1951, when they moved to Moorhead. She worked at the North Dakota State Seed Department as a seed analyst from 1961 until her retirement in 1981.
Grace loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She strove to establish a strong set of values in her children. She took great joy in her relationship with God. Faith was central to her life. Grace and her family were charter members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. There she taught Sunday School, sewed hundreds of quilt tops, and particularly enjoyed Wednesday evening worship services. Grace was also involved with the VFW Auxiliary for over 60 years. She was a founding member of the Ada Auxiliary, and continued to support the VFW Auxiliary in Moorhead, serving as Auxiliary President and in many other offices.
After retirement Grace took up ceramics and painting. She enjoyed occasional trips to the casino and loved Sunday afternoon bingo at the VFW. An avid card player, Grace especially looked forward to weekends of playing cards with her siblings. She travelled to many fun places including Norway, Germany, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Las Vegas.
Grace and Morrie shared 39 years of marriage before his death in 1980. Grace was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elton and Henry Stadum; and sister, Ardis Johnston. She is survived by her children, Allan (Elizabeth) Bennefeld, Renee Lentz, and Diane (Gary) Thiel; grandchildren, Jason Lentz, Ryan (Erika) and Steven Thiel; great-grandchildren, Timothy Lentz and Benjamin and Jack Thiel; brother, M. Donald Stadum, St Anthony, MN; and sisters Norma Danielson, Coon Rapids, MN, and Doreen Schlenz, Fridley, MN.
Visitation: Tuesday, 5 PM to 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 11 AM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.
Burial: Wednesday, at 2 PM, Ada City Cemetery, Ada, MN.
