Grace M. Forness, 84, residing at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, August 31, 2006, after a long battle with cancer.
Grace Maxine Forness was born July 14, 1922, at Barnesville, MN, to Benjamin Harrison Perkins and Ella Melinda (Tomsha) Perkins. She grew up on a farm in the area, was educated and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1940.
On May 1, 1941 she married Ernest Jerome Forness in Moorhead. They made their home in Fargo, ND, until late 1942, when they moved their home to Shakopee, MN, where Ernie was employed by Cargill Corporation. After the war, they returned to Fargo where Grace attended and graduated from Dakota Business College. They then moved to Moorhead in 1952 and resided at 1020 North 10th Street for over fifty years. Grace moved to Eventide Catered Living Center in 2005.
Grace, during her business career, worked for JCPenny Company and Northern Wholesale Drug Company, which later was acquired by McKesson Robbins. She worked for McKesson for over twenty-five years, until the Fargo distribution center was closed. She retired in 1985. She worked for McKesson as accounting manager and later as customer service manager. After retirement she volunteered at the American Red Cross in Fargo and for the Senior Citizens Center in Moorhead.
Grace is survived by one son, Gerald "Jerry" (Donna Herk) Forness, Burnsville, MN; three grandchildren, Kari Ann Forness Moen, Lakeville, MN; Jay Derron (Amy) Forness, Bloomington, MN, and Jamey Allen Forness, of Minneapolis, MN; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Madison Moen, and Derek, Devin, Collin and Erin Forness; and two sisters, Dorothy and Velma. Her parents, her husband, and six brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are sent to the American Red Cross or Hospice of the Red River Valley. Grace's family would like to offer special thanks and recognition to Donna Stach and Glen Riggle, who were guardian angels, and took
