Grace Virginia Carlson was born September 6, 1918, in Fargo, ND, to John and Annie (Stensgard) Carlson. She grew up on a farm in Park Township and received her education in Detroit Lakes, MN.
On June 6, 1936, Grace married Hinton W. Thorson in Moorhead, MN, and they made their home in Park Township, then Detroit Lakes. They eventually moved to Hawthorne, CA, where she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" for Douglas Aircraft. In 1941, they moved to Dilworth, MN, where Grace lovingly raised their five children.
Grace died on Sunday, August 21, 2005, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, at the age of eighty-six.
Grace was a strong and elegant woman. Her faith in the Lord was her strength and she instilled that in her children. Grace was also a talented musician and she played many instruments. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, baking, and she was always the gracious hostess. Grace was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. We will miss her friendship and her presence with us and we are celebrating in knowing she is with our Lord and Savior.
Grace is survived by her husband, Hinton, Moorhead; five children, Bev (Leonard) Wagner, Moorhead, Carol (Rick) Larson, Hawley, MN, Wally Jr (Lonnie), Crookston, MN, Jerdeen (Jim) Hampton, Minneapolis, MN, and Pam (Steve) Wear, Dilworth; fourteen grandchildren; one foster grandchild; seventeen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, and one brother.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Eventide for their loving care of Grace.
