Gregory George Mayer, 72, of Fargo, ND, passed away on December 3, 2021, at Essentia Health Fargo and had been staying at the VA Medical Center prior.
Greg was born on December 10, 1948, to Wallace and Gerene (Aldous) Mayer in Alexandria, MN. After graduating from Jamestown High School in 1967, he enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Ticonderoga. Greg attended North Dakota State University and graduated with a B.S. Interior Design degree. He owned two construction companies, Greg Mayer Construction and Personal Space in Fargo, ND, as well as being a landlord.
He enjoyed many adventures camping in the Boundary Waters with his dog and the canoe he built. Travels also took him to Russia and Mexico. He loved creating in his wood shop and cooking. His Christian faith was very important to him, and he enjoyed his Bible study groups.
Greg was predeceased by his father Wallace.
He is survived by his loving mother, Gerene; brother, Larry (Mary) Mayer, sisters, Tam (Dennis) Wagner and Cindy (Warren) Bettenhausen; and nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
The Memorial Service for Greg will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 602 12th Ave E, Alexandria, MN 56308. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria.
