Gretchen M. Olsgard

May 1, 1942 — May 25, 2011

Gretchen Marie Connelly Olsgard was born May 1, 1942, to Lawrence and Ruth (Thompson) Connelly, in Sabin, MN, where she grew up. Gretchen was married to Lloyd Olsgard for twenty-eight years, and they made their home on a farm in rural Walcott, ND. Gretchen and Lloyd worked side-by-side on their farm, growing corn and wheat and raising cattle. They had three daughters who grew up loving the outdoors.

Gretchen spent many years enjoying her home on Pelican Lake, until recently moving to Moorhead, MN. In her early years, she was an avid collector of Red Wing Pottery, and loved hunting, fishing, gardening and baking. She discovered traveling and penny slot machines later in life, and continued her love of the outdoors with her many flower pots. She found joy in spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons, Jordan and Brant. On Wednesday, May 25, 2011, Gretchen died peacefully at home surrounded by family and under the care of the Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was sixty-nine years old.

Gretchen will be remembered by her family and friends for the love she showed to all of them and her endless sense of humor. She made a positive difference in countless lives.

Gretchen is survived by her three daughters: Wendy Olsgard, West Fargo, ND, Patti (Sam) Gillette, Arvada, CO, and Stacy (Carl) Mead, Walcott; two grandsons, Jordan Mead and Brant Mead, Walcott; two sisters, Gail Suko, Barnesville, MN, and Marge (Gerald) Barth, Wannaska, MN; and one brother, Mike (Anita) Connelly, Baker, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, John.

A Gathering of Friends will be Monday, May 30, 2011, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 11 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Hospice of the Red River Valley, whose staff and volunteers were unbelievably compassionate and caring during her five-month struggle with cancer; the Dorothy Day House; or donor's choice.
