Harold N. Svobodny

Harold Norman Svobodny was born on November 2, 1916 to Frank and Hazel (Coffman) Svobodyny in Graceville, MN. When he was ten, the family moved to Fargo, ND, where Harold attended school. He then worked for American Cleaners, Moorhead. In 1942, Harold enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving during WWII in New Guinea, Philippines, Okinawa, and Australia. Upon his discharge, he returned to Fargo.
On September 7, 1946, Harold married Vivian Holson in Moorhead, where they made their home. Harold worked as a custodian for Moorhead High School for seventeen years, retiring in 1982.
Harold died Sunday, June 11, 2006, in Innovis Health, Fargo, at the age of 89.
Harold enjoyed fishing, playing horse shoes, and watching sports, in particular the Twins and Vikings. He was an avid reader and traveled on many bus tours with his wife. Harold loved to socialize with his friends and family. Many summers were spent with family at a cabin they would rent on the lake.
Harold is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Vivian, Moorhead; three sons, David and John, both of Minneapolis, MN, and Richard (Laureen), Audubon, MN; two daughters, Loree (Dan) Alverson, Moorhead, and Cindy Svobodny, Fargo; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Visitation for Harold will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 10 AM in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Moorhead.
