Harold V. Hanson

June 10, 1926 — December 5, 2008

Harold Vernon Hanson was born in Dilworth, MN, on June 10, 1926, to Harold and Olga (Hoaby) Hanson. He grew up in the Dilworth area where he attended school.


He served his country in World War II as a machinist in the U. S. Navy. His tour of duty extended to the Asiatic theater and he received an honorable discharge.


Upon returning to his home area, he was married to Ruth C. Nelson in Dilworth, where they made their home for many years. Harold was employed by several railroads in Minnesota and North Dakota. He also worked for the City of Dilworth, Ernie Schroeder Farms, and Standard Oil. For 30 years, Harold served his community as a volunteer Fireman.


In the later 1980s, Harold and Ruth moved to Cormorant Lake and enjoyed many good years. He was an avid sportsman and loved to attend auction sales. Moreover, he was a man who was generous with his helpfulness and giving attitude to anyone who needed it.


He died on Friday evening, December 5, 2008 at St. Mary's hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN at the age of 82 years.


He is survived by his wife Ruth, of Lake Park, MN; 3 daughters and 1 son, Mary Ellen (Dan) Huber of Glyndon, MN, Merle (Susan) Hanson of Dilworth, Joyce (Bruce) Shellito of Columbia Heights, MN, and Gladys (Junior) Howlett of Moorhead, MN; 12 grandchildre
A Memorial Service for Harold will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 1:30 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN.
