Harry H. Vidger, 93, of Fargo, ND, died in his home at Touchmark in Fargo on January 7, 2019, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Harry Herbert Vidger, the son of Harry Sr. and Mae (Reynolds) Vidger, was born December 13, 1925, in Downer, MN. He attended country school and graduated from Glyndon (MN) High School in 1943. During WWII, Harry courageously served his country in the US
Merchant Marines by transporting vital goods across dangerous waters.
On September 15, 1948, Harry was united in marriage to Leola Lindsay, in Moorhead, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in Fargo, where Harry began his commercial painting business, Vidger Decorating Service. He was blessed with remarkably sharp business skills. Harry used this gift as he owned and operated Vidger Decorating for 36 years, completing countless projects and managing large crews of employees.
In their free time, Harry and Lee liked to travel. Some of their fond memories include climbing the Great Wall of China, visiting Hiroshima in Japan, attending the Passion play in Germany, exploring Australia and beautiful New Zealand, and visiting the Copper Canyon in Mexico and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. They visited Lee's ancestral countries of Ireland and Scotland, and Harry's ancestral countries of England and Wales. In the Holy Land, they waded in the Dead Sea, and received communion in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Harry had a deep Christian faith and was an active member of his church, Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fargo, for 58 years. He served God and the church with his talents in the roles of financial secretary, trustee, and as an usher. He was also generous with his time in the community, serving as a volunteer driver at United Blood Services and a Kiwanis club member, both for more than 20 years.
Harry and Lee were blessed with 70 years of marriage. Harry was an avid Bison fan, and for 68 years he rarely missed the chance to attend a football game. He also enjoyed gathering with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family has fond memories of playing cards together, taking boat rides, getting business advice, and working side-by-side on home improvement projects. He was loved and will be missed.
Harry is survived by his wife, Leola "Lee", of Fargo; children, Larry (Roxanne) Vidger, Sonja (Bob) Hillner, Bryan (Michelle) Vidger, and Beverley (John) Furrow; grandchildren, Lance (Marie) Vidger, Rachel (Darin) Fuchs, Lindsay (Will) Donovan, Caleb (Emily) Furrow, Joshua Furrow, Arianna Vidger, and Katie Hillner; and great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ryan Vidger, Jude Donovan, Delilah Fuchs, and James Furrow. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leonard.
Memorials are preferred to First Choice Clinic, Fargo, and to Samaritan's Purse.
Visitation for Harry is Friday, January 18, 2019, from 4-7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN. His funeral will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 11 AM at Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, ND.
