Harvey H. Turner, 87, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, April 4, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Harvey Herbert Harry Turner, the son of Harry and Elise (Thiel) Turner, was born Oct. 22, 1917, on the home farm in Section 2, Mary Township, Norman County, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church now Grace Lutheran in Ada, MN. After graduating from Live Wire Country School, rural Ada, he worked on the home farm until Nov. 6, 1941, at which time he entered the US Army, and served in the South Pacific. In April of 1942, he landed in Australia. Harvey took part in campaigns in New Guinea, Biak Island, and the Philippines. He received the Purple Heart on June 23, 1944, the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and three Battle Stars. After he was honorably discharged on May 19, 1945, he went to work for the US Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service in Norman County, MN. He transferred to Clay County in April of 1946.
On August 8, 1953, Harvey was united in marriage to Esther E. Krabbenhoft in Sabin, MN. The couple made their home in Moorhead, MN.
He retired from the Soil Conservation Dept. in June of 1973, and then started work with the Clay County Highway Department as maintenance supervisor in July of 1973. He retired in April 1980. Esther died in 2003.
Harvey was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, where he served on the Board of Trustees, finance and elders. He was also a member of the Moorhead American Legion since 1945.
Harvey is survived by one brother, Raymond, Ada; two sisters, Erna Langseth, Fargo, and Alice Schenkey, Ada; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his wife, Esther; Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and one b
