Hazel C. Anderson, 93, Fargo, ND, died Friday, March 25, 2011, in Sanford Health, Fargo
Hazel Charlotte Quam, the daughter of Herman and Caroline Quam, was born on the family farm near Harwood, ND, on July 6, 1917. She grew up in the Harwood area. She attended the Quam School, rural Harwood, and attended and graduated from Fargo Central High, in 1934, at the age of 16. She received her teacher's training at Moorhead (MN) State Teachers College, and returned to teach at Quam School.
On May 14, 1938, Hazel married Arnold Anderson. They lived in Georgetown, MN, and in Hendrum, MN. While living in Hendrum, Hazel was active in the community and in her church, Immanuel Lutheran, where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school for 25 years. She assisted her husband, as bookkeeper for their Standard Oil business.
After 40 years in Hendrum, the couple returned to Arnold's home farm, near Kragnes, to live.
Hazel was interested in family geneology. She and Arnold traveled extensively both in this country and overseas, including three trips to Norway. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and sang in their choir for many years. Hazel was an avid reader and excelled at crossword puzzles. Her handwork is cherished by her family. Hazel had lived in Fargo for many years, and was a member of Oak Mound Congregational UCC, Kragnes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, who died in 1983; daughters, Carol Strande and LaVonne Maring; parents; brother, Clarence Quam; and sister, Alice Slingsby.
Hazel is survived by her son, Juel (Hilda) Anderson, El Paso, TX; grandchildren, Dr. Rhonda Anderson, Austin, TX, Troy (Tip Arpar) Anderson, Boulder, CO, Barry (Elizabeth) Maring, Fargo, Tammy (Tom) Miller, Mound, MN, Michael Maring, Detroit Lakes, MN, Mi
Memorials preferred to Sons of Norway, Fargo.
Visitation: one hour prior to the funeral with the Funeral service: Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 2 PM,
Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead
Interment: Oak Mound Cemetery, Kragnes.
