Hazel Hamner

Hazel Alvina Widness was born January 26, 1947, the daughter of Albert and Gladys (Bergrud) Widness, in Perham, MN. She passed away in her home in Moorhead, MN, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at seventy years of age.

Hazel graduated from Perham High School in 1964, and then entered nursing school in Alexandria, MN, and graduated from the program in spring of 1966.

While attending Alexandria Technical College, she met her true love, Gale Hamner. They were married on September 5, 1965, in St. Barnabas Church in Barry, MN. To this union they were blessed with three wonderful sons, Michael, Darvin, and Leon.

Hazel moved, with the family, to north Moorhead, in 1980, and started her nursing career at Moorhead HealthCare, where she worked until her retirement in 2009. While working at the nursing home, when one of the residents passed away, she would bring flowers and attend their funerals. She so enjoyed helping people, that after her retirement, she volunteered at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.

Hazel loved family time. She would casually watch Minnesota Viking and NDSU football with her husband. She would attend any of her grandkids events, and especially enjoyed attending church services with the entire family, followed by lunch with the family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gale; sons, Michael, Fargo, Darvin (Michelle), Fargo, and Leon (Jami), Moorhead; sister, Bernice (Marlon) Kubitz, Monticello, MN; brother, Arvin (Sheila) Widness, Richville, MN; ten grandkids and two great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gladys (Bergrud) Widness; and grandson, Anthony Hamner.

Visitation for Hazel will be Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Funeral Mass will be Monday, December 4, 2017, at 11 AM, in the church.

Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
