Helen Irene Carlson was born January 2, 1914, into the family of Sven and Bertha (Olson) Carlson on their farm near Halstad, MN. On Sunday, September 5, 2010, at the age of 96, she was born into new life as she died to this world and gained her promised eternal life.
Helen lived an incredible life. She was a graduate of Crookston Agricultural School and Asbury Hamline School of Nursing. As a nurse, she met the love of her life, Allen V. Lee, a preacher in a wheelchair. They married on January 31, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN. Together they carried out a transformational, Christian ministry of evangelism as they touched many lives traveling throughout the Midwest.
Helen and Allen made their home on a small sheep farm near Hayfield, MN, where they raised their children Jim and Becky, and later Jim's wife Barb, and grandchildren, Elaina and Allen. Helen was a leader in her church, East St. Olaf Lutheran, where she was the organist for over fifty years. Many trusted her for wise counsel and good common sense advice. Her love for her family and friends was unselfish and ever giving.
In 2002, Helen moved to Fargo, ND, where she lived with her daughter, Becky, until she moved to The Evergreens Memory Care of Moorhead, MN, in 2009.
We, her family, are thankful for our mother and grandmother. She shared all she had with us, most importantly a living faith in her Savior Jesus Christ.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and sisters, Kenneth, Mildred, Leslie, Bernice, Wallace, Erling and Burdeen.
She is survived by loving children, James (Barbara) of Oakdale, MN, and Pastor Becky Lee of Fargo; grandchildren, Elaina Lee of Sartell, MN, Allen Lee of Stillwater, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth Carlson, Ada, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Helen will be Wednesday, September 8, 2010, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 11 AM, in Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo.
A second service will take place in East St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Rock Dell, MN, with burial in the church cemetery.
